Well adapted to the harsh winter,
the ptarmigan locally known as
"partridge" prefers the wind blown
high ground. In early winter they
can be found on the lower slopes
foraging on the tenderest alder
shoots before they are buried
Seen here "snowshoeing"
through deep snow on
Keeping one foot in front of the other. furlined feet that part to
distribute the birds weight.
